Learning Enhancement
LEARNING ENHANCEMENT AT IMMANUEL
Learning Support That Builds Confidence and Unlocks Potential
At Immanuel, we back every student to move forward — not by fitting a mould, but by building the skills, strategies and support that suit who they are.
Our Learning Enhancement team is here to help students overcome learning barriers, strengthen their confidence, and take charge of their progress — in a school where support is real, relationships matter, and we work together to make things happen.
Learning Support That Makes a Real Difference
Helping students move from “I can’t” to “I can”
The Learning Enhancement Department (LED) works closely with students, families, and staff to create support that’s targeted, practical and personal. Whether a student needs help with core skills, processing challenges, executive functioning, or self-confidence, our focus is always on what’s possible — and how to get there.
Our Specialist Teachers and experienced Teacher Aides are embedded into daily school life — offering in-class support, small group programs, and individualised learning plans. These aren’t just templates. – they’re flexible, strengths-based roadmaps, built in collaboration with families and designed to evolve with each student’s journey.
We’re not here to just manage needs. We’re here to help students grow beyond them.
Support for Learners with Additional Needs
Inclusive, intentional, and student-centred
We know some children need a little extra support along the way — and we’re here to help. Our team works closely with families to understand each child’s unique needs and provide adjustments where we can. Whether it’s extra guidance in the classroom or working together on individual learning goals, we’re committed to creating a caring, inclusive environment where every child can feel safe, supported and seen.
We understand that no two learners are the same. While we aim to provide a supportive environment for all students, we also work in partnership with families to determine whether our programs, staffing, and resources are the right fit.
Teacher Aides are available across year levels, providing responsive assistance where it’s most needed.
Stronger together
Working With Families to Guide Growth and Understanding
We believe the best outcomes happen when schools and families work as one team. That’s why we value open communication, clear expectations, and shared understanding.
Whether your child has a diagnosis or you’re still exploring options, we’ll walk alongside you. We’re focused on what helps your child feel confident and capable — and we’ll adjust as they grow.
Our approach is grounded in collaboration, backed by data, and shaped by our values of care, connection and respect.
The Learning Enhancement Team
Specialists who know their stuff — and know your child
Our Learning Enhancement team includes specialist teachers and Teacher Aides who work closely with the broader wellbeing network, including:
- Counsellors
- Occupational Therapists
- House Leaders
- Youth Worker
- Directors of Wellbeing and Student Engagement
This connected team shares information, plans together, and supports students in ways that feel consistent, clear and human.
Our buddy systems and peer mentoring programs help build connection, while ensuring no student feels alone in their learning journey.
INCLUSIVE COCURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
A place to connect, create and feel confident
We know learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom — and for many students, cocurricular life is where they feel most like themselves. At Immanuel, we offer inclusive activities that help students explore their interests, find their people, and grow their independence.
From music, sport and drama to Eco Club, robotics, and service initiatives like Interact, our programs are wide-ranging and welcoming. Students with additional learning needs are encouraged to participate in ways that suit them — and supported by staff who understand how to help them settle in, get involved and enjoy the experience.
Enrolment Considerations
Realistic, respectful, and student-focused
At Immanuel, we’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive learning environment that supports a range of learning needs. While we do our best to offer meaningful support for all students, our capacity depends on the availability of appropriate resources and programs at the time of enrolment.
We work closely with families of each child, to best understand their individual needs and determine whether our learning environment is the best fit. These conversations are handled with honesty, care and a shared goal — making sure every student is set up to feel supported, understood, and ready to succeed.
If you’re unsure whether Immanuel is the best fit, reach out. We’ll take the time to talk through what’s possible.

Real questions. Honest answers. Clear expectations.

We understand that every student learns differently. Some may need support with organisation, others with processing, attention, regulation, or confidence. Whatever the need, we work in partnership with families and staff to build support that’s practical, respectful, and responsive. From small classroom adjustments to targeted intervention, our focus is on what helps each student engage and grow.
We take a collaborative approach. Teachers observe classroom engagement, collect data, and work with our Learning Enhancement and Wellbeing teams to build a full picture of each student’s strengths and needs. We also partner with families and, when appropriate, allied health professionals to ensure support is targeted and meaningful.
No. A formal diagnosis is not required to receive support. If a teacher, parent, or student raises concerns, our team will begin a conversation and look at how we can provide appropriate assistance, whether short-term or ongoing.
Inclusion isn’t just a policy — it’s part of our culture. From buddy systems and team projects to classroom strategies and peer mentoring, we actively create environments where every student feels seen, safe, and valued.
We support many students who identify as neurodivergent, offering inclusive classroom strategies, sensory-aware environments, access to the Green Space, and optional Personalised Support Plans where needed. Our approach is grounded in understanding, not assumptions — and we work closely with students and families to create support that fits.
The Green Space is a secluded area within the Student Services building where students can take time out, regulate, or settle if they’re feeling overwhelmed. It’s available to any student who needs it, and it’s supported by staff who understand how to create calm, sensory-aware environments.
One of the great advantages of being on one P–12 campus is that transitions feel natural. For students who need a bit more support, we offer structured orientation programs, informal visits, and plenty of time to connect with key staff ahead of the change.
A big one. We see families as essential partners. From early conversations to formal learning plans, we keep communication open and collaborative. Your insight helps us do our best work.
Absolutely. Whether your child is into robotics, rugby, drama, or drones — there’s something for everyone. Staff are trained to support a variety of learning needs and ensure students can participate in ways that feel safe and positive.
We expect that they will — and we adapt. Learning Plans are regularly reviewed with input from students, parents and staff, and adjusted as needed. We’re here for the long haul.
In Primary School, speak with your child’s classroom teacher. In Secondary, your first step is their House Leader. From there, we’ll involve the right people from the Learning Enhancement and Wellbeing teams to explore next steps.
LANS (Language and Numeracy Support) is an alternative to studying a language for selected students. It offers extra time to strengthen core literacy and numeracy skills, and placements are made carefully based on learning needs and long-term goals.
